Gerard D. Webster’s The
Soul Reader tells the story of a man named Ward who has a special ability
to see inside of a person’s soul to see their true character and intentions,
something that most people cannot do.
His father had the same ability and only a few people knew about it and
fewer knew that Ward had it. Even Ward’s
ex, Carrie, was not let in on the secret until almost the end of this
adventure. As a team, they are able to
get to the bottom of the scandal that caused Ward’s father to be caught in the
crossfire when an assassination was followed through as some illegal activity
that his father was trying to stop.
This story is full of twisting plot lines, and plenty of
action to keep up with. Each new chapter
uncovers an element of the mystery that surrounds the death of Ward’s father,
and it was hard to put this book down.
Each new event created more and more suspense, until it seems like there
was not much more that could happen to these two people in such a short amount
of time. Each time that it seemed that they
had almost figured out what had transpired, there were more people or more
events that were uncovered before the entire truth was revealed at the end of
the book.
There were no boring parts to this book, even in times of
uneventful resting or regrouping by the characters in this book. There were clues to be followed up on and
things to try to fit together so that they made sense to the investigators and
Ward and Carrie. I highly recommend this
book to anyone who likes a good story filled with mystery and action.
Until next time:)
